INTERTOWN Info for Spring 2020

INTERTOWN is a part of the Lynbrook East Rockaway Soccer Club  (LER). It is a bridge between intramurals and travel.  Some players/teams choose to use intertown to get ready for travel, and eventually transition to travel, either as a team or as individual players trying out for existing travel teams. Other players/teams choose to stay with intertown for the length of their time in soccer.

Uniforms/Equipment

Player wear travel uniforms, but normally do not number their uniforms.  It is up to the coach as to how they want to handle this.  But when uniforms are ordered, make sure to check with the coach first to see if non-numbered or numbered will be used.  If numbers are worn, coaches have the final say in assigning numbers. The uniform is a set of all white (socks, shorts, jerseys) or green and white jersey with black shorts and black socks. Players are expected to have shin guards under their socks, as well as soccer cleats at all practices and games.  Additional equipment is as follows: a regulation soccer ball (size 3, 4 or 5 depending on the age and team…see coach before purchasing) and water brought to every practice and game.  It is a good idea to have a bag and ball pump as well. If a player requires glasses, these need to be sports glasses with a strap.

Order for uniforms sometimes take a few weeks.  Please do not wait until a week or two before the first game to order.

Games

Games can be played on Saturdays or Sundays. Coaches make the schedule about a month before the season starts.  The schedule is not fixed and can change throughout the season. Games are played home (in Lynbrook on schools or town fields) or away.  Away games are in Nassau County and can be as close as Hewlett, and as far as Port Washington.  Most teams play 8-12 games a season.

Practices

Practices are once or twice a week depending on the coach.  One day a week the club provides a trainer for the team’s practice.  If a second day with a trainer is requested by a coach, the trainer’s second day is paid by a collection taken up by the team. Regular attendance at practice is required for playing in games.  The coach works with the trainer and the club when deciding the day, time and location of practices.  Most practices schedules are not decided until 2 weeks before the season starts.

Options

There are 4 possibilities for intertown teams.  Unlike travel teams that are based on birth year, these are based on grade in school.

  • Junior Girls Intertown: grades 4-6
  • Junior Boys Intertown: grades 4-6
  • Senior Girls Intertown: Grades 7-9
  • Senior Boys Intertown: Grades 7-9

There are no options for grade 3 or grades 10-12.

For Spring 2020:

  • Junior Girls Intertown: registration is closed as the team is full from Fall 2019.  If additional spots become available, the coach will allow players to register. Please contact Sandy Carroll if interested and your daughter can be put on a waitlist.
  • Junior Boys Intertown: We did not have enough player interest to form a team Fall 2019. We are open to forming a team if we get enough (usually at least 12) players AND a parent volunteers to coach.  If your son is interested in playing, please let us know and we can see how many are interested. If you can coach, that would increase the chances of a team for Spring 2020.
  • Senior Girls Intertown: We did not have enough player interest to form a team Fall 2019. We are open to forming a team if we get enough (usually at least 14) players AND a parent volunteers to coach.  If your daughter is interested in playing, please let us know and we can see how many are interested. If you can coach, that would increase the chances of a team for Spring 2020.
  • Senior Boys Intertown.  We had almost enough players to form a team in Fall 2019. The Spring 2019 coach is interested in forming a team and we are actively seeking players for this team.  Please let us know if you are interested.  You can register your child on the LERSoccer website.  http://lilynbrookrockaway.sportssignup.com/site/
